Summary
It is known across all places that surnames are earned, not chosen. One must be given their name and one must accept the name they are given for it to be true. A chosen name could be anything, could not represent one accurately. It is a faux-pas in some lands; in others, it is strictly taboo. But across all lands, it is known: one must earn the names they take, and the names they take must be given.
