Happy’s voice sounded almost frantic. “Peter, answer me. Are you hurt? Do you need someone to come get you?” He paused for a few seconds. “All right, I’m sending your coordinates to Tony. Hang in there, bud.”
A fog hung over Peter’s mind, and he barely registered what Happy said. A deep drowsiness settled over him, and his muscles slowly relaxed as he found himself falling toward sleep. This was not good.

A child whimpered on the floor in the middle of the room, curled in a fetal position, illuminated by the single lightbulb that hung bare from the ceiling. Another one lay in a corner. And one man stood between them, a pistol pointed directly at Clint's chest. He dove out of the way, but the bullet lodged itself in his arm with an impact that threw him against the wall. Adrenaline numbed the pain, and he jumped to his haunches.
That's gonna hurt later.

His burning eyes met her own bloodshot ones for two seconds before he pulled her into his arms and buried his face in her hair.

He fought the gray fog that blurred the edges of his vision, but it was slowly gaining ground. His eyes rolled back into his head, and he barely heard someone shouting before he sank into the welcoming arms of oblivion.

"Cooper!" He shouted, and when his son didn't hear him, he tried again. "Cooper!" He stepped out onto the edge of the frozen lake, cautious but faster than he knew he should.
The boy's head whipped up, and the sheer terror in his eyes had Clint forcing himself to breathe steadily. Don't panic. People do stupid things when they panic.

All of the other agents would say that she'd acted just as they'd expect a rookie to act—foolish and reckless. And maybe she was. But Clint would understand; Clint always understood.
But then again, she owed it to him to at least try to stay alive, even if all she wanted was to try and forget the Red Room.
