For a while it has upset me that poor Dr Pete died sitting in the pub. (Although some might say that was a great way to go!)
I realise that this is not a fluffy, cutesy piece, so please be aware of that. I won't be in the least bit offended if you don't want to read it.
I hope I've tackled the subject with compassion, and not in a saccharine way, which is not how I view death.

My first attempt at writing the Cardinal. This is not really going to be a love story in the conventional sense. I've a feeling it won't end well. Descriptively I'll try to be as accurate as possible although the female character name is my own invention. A bit of info about The Cardinal.......Born Armand Jean Du Plessis Cardinal/Duke of Richelieu and Fronsac, in 1585, he was a nobleman in his own right, consecrated as a bishop in 1607 aged only 22. He was created Cardinal in 1622 aged 37. He was also foreign secretary or 'first minister' to Louis XIII, and wielded great power. He died, aged 57 in 1642.

I've had this story buzzing around my head for sometime now, but was reluctant to start it, as I had no idea where to take it. (And I was concentrating on Malcolm!)
There are not many Dr Pete stories, and all the ones I've read feature Clara. I've enjoyed those immensely but very much wanted to steer clear of that myself.
My female character is entirely made up, she is a little older than Clara, and somewhat damaged. I have set the story in 2011, when the programme was broadcast, rather than when it was actually set. In this universe Pete is not dying, I need to keep him alive so that he can mend! The nurse in me likes to try to fix people....even if they are my story characters!! It's going to be a slow burner and a descriptive piece, which I hope won't be too boring.
I'm fully aware that we actually know very little about Pete. It's a small role. For me, that is not terribly important. The scenes that Peter Capaldi is in are so compelling, and I find it one of his most moving and endearing roles.
Coming from a medical background I find his portrayal spot on (I'm not sure whether he has personally witnessed alcoholism or someone suffering from cancer, but it shows just what a fine actor he really is.)Series

A story inspired by my holiday visit to Cornwall.
This is going to be very much an old fashioned story. It is the late fifties, the days when couples 'were courting' or 'walking out'. If Randall was 50 at the end of the fifties, he would have been born before the First World War. At the time of the Spanish Civil War and the beginning of World War Two he would already be 30. Bel would have been roughly 10 in 1939. I have always imagined the young Randall as looking like Claude, in the Poirot story, 'Wasp's Nest', which Peter starred in, and was set in about 1937. (He was roughly the right age too).
Anna Chancellor played Virginie in the Poirot story, 'The Chocolate Box' set round about the same time, and her right age in real life, to be the model for the young Lix.Series

Summary
The story is about Jim and Sue Dawson, teenage sweethearts who have been married for twenty years. Their two children give them an anniversary party, and a gift of a two week holiday in a Spanish villa.
On arrival they find the pool is shared with the villa next door, Sue and Jim's lives and problems become entangled with those of the young and carefree Esther and her Latino fiancé Felipe.
It is a tale of what happened next.
Eleven days of the holiday remain, eleven chapters (I hope) one for each day.
My narrative begins directly as the credits roll. The last shot we see of them apart from the leap into the pool, is Jim applying cream to Sue's shoulder, on the terrace. It is here the narrative begins.*(Uxorious......to have a deep and abiding love for one's wife.)
