Summary
Bill’s eye scrunches up at the bottom in a smile. “THOUGHT SO! HEY, CHIN UP, KID.” He reaches out and tucks one finger under Ford’s chin, raising Ford’s head. The hateful mirror is back, showing the woman Ford could be, can be, but only in his head, Bill perched on one of her shoulders with an arm genially wrapped around her neck. She’s just as beautiful as the first time Ford saw her, and the gentle press of breasts against the arm he holds wrapped around his front, the soft brush of Bill’s hand across smooth skin as he pats the side of Ford’s face, makes Ford want to cry.
“LOOK AT US!“ Bill says brightly, squishing Ford’s face up against one of his sides. “THE MUSE AND THE BRILLIANT WOMAN WHO’S ABOUT TO CHANGE THE WORLD!”

Summary
The couch creaked in exactly the same way Ford remembered when she sat down and slid into the same old indentation between the springs, sending up a puff of dust and the smell of old couch and new paper. For an instant, it was 1982 again and the world around her was still the same as she’d left it. Nothing had changed, and this place was still her home.
...

Summary
"YOU KNOW, IN A THOUSAND MILLION TIMELINES, YOU ACTUALLY GOT THE DROP ON ME! SNUCK INTO A CLOCK TOWER, FLEW A UFO UP ON ME, EVEN PRETENDED TO JOIN MY GANG SO YOU COULD STAB ME IN THE BACK! BUT THIS YOU..."
Bill didn't have a mouth, but he didn't really need one. Ford could feel the gloating smirk emanating from his triangular face. She tried to twist in midair, trying to break free from the force holding her in place, but Bill just laughed in her face.
"I KNEW I COULD COUNT ON THIS YOU TO DO SOMETHING...STUPID!"
...

Summary
Dipper had already started to set things up in the living room, a circle marked out around the armchair Mabel was lying in with paper streamers and some kind of...stringy substance that was light and fragile and faintly sticky when Ford touched it. Dipper grabbed the box Stan had pushed into Ford's arms, pulling out white pillar candles one but one and setting them up around the circle. "Okay, here's the plan. I'm going to go into Mabel's mindscape, find her -"
"Good. But you aren't going alone," Ford interjected. As the look of single-minded, terrified determination that Dipper had been wearing cracked open in relief, she found herself forced to admit that Stanley had been correct on at least one count.
They’re still kids.
...

Summary
"Wh-why would he leave the protective barrier?" Dipper's voice rose from somewhere to Ford's right, increasing in both speed and pitch with alarm. "He did know about it, right? Why would he go out where it wasn't safe? Does this mean Bill's already figured out how to get in? But if he has, then why take Grunkle Stan and not us? Is he just playing with us now?"
There was a tug on Ford’s sleeve, and she looked down to see Mabel, her brown eyes shimmering threateningly but her mouth set in determination. “We’re gonna go rescue Grunkle Stan, right?”
...

Summary
Ford wears her hair short for the next thirty years. Shaved close for lice or prison regulations or cranial surgery, correcting the clumsy, slipshod job she’d done inserting the metal plate, strengthening its protections until Ford almost believes she can trust her own actions again, trust her own mind again. Cut rough with a single blade, during a few stolen moments of rest. Memorably, in one dimension, with a map of the Citadel where one of Bill’s puppets is lurking shaved into it.
(Bill used to love - or at least act like he loved - playing with her hair.)
...
