Summary
Matt splays his fingers over Frank’s heart. It’s incredibly steady beneath his fingers, beating a slow and regular rhythm. He feels Frank’s chest shift with every breath he takes and slowly starts to match his breathing to his. As he begins to calm down, his hurts start to move more into the background, the ringing in his ears no longer so scary because he knows that Frank’s on the side of the bed that’s closer to the door and whoever might come for them is gonna have to go through him first (and, well, good luck there). It is a novel, foreign feeling, relying on someone for protection, for safety. It should be terrifying but to his surprise he finds that it isn’t.

Matt loses his hearing again when he’s fighting alongside Frank. Only this time, he doesn’t end up chained to a building.

Summary
When he scoots closer, turns him over and presses himself to his back, there's a split second when he’s convinced that Red’s gonna bolt. Then, surprisingly, he goes all boneless and actually fucking hums, and it’s like - like he’s a cat that’s finally being petted. Careful to avoid the wound on his ribs, he drapes his arm around him, closed fist on his chest. He’s not gonna paw at him.
Red wiggles and sighs and wiggles some more. He wraps his frozen palm around Frank’s arm and presses his cold feet to Frank’s shins. Frank doesn’t really mind.

The next time Red loses his hearing, Frank’s there for him.

Summary
There’s a barely healed cut on Red’s lower lip. Doesn’t look more than a day old. Most likely from this night, even, when he probably didn’t duck fast enough and got punched in the mouth hard enough for the thin skin there to split. Frank kind of wants to worry it with his teeth until it starts bleeding again, just so he could kiss it better.
