Summary
It’s a new server, fresh and bright and full of possibility. Things have barely begun to settle - there’s starter bases and resource grinds and dragon fights exploding all around them, and the Hermits have hardly had a chance to stop and think about who they’re going to be spending the next season with, if they even want to make a choice instead of leaving it up to fate. Some, like Pearl, are mixing it up, making fresh starts; others are cheerfully swinging right back around to the same people they know and love.
In a little starter base by the coast, a maison with a wooden roof and walls and a black carpet floor, two table settings are placed.
(Stress photosynthesises rather than eats; False can only be nourished by the blood of mortals. They try to make a romantic dinner work anyway.)

In her high regard from the animal kingdom, Empress Pearl had caught the eye of the spirit of wolves, and she had sent an ambassador in her name: a loyal attendant, to bare her teeth to every threat presented to the Empress or to Gilded Helianthia, and to be guardian to the souls of every wolf in the Empress' care so long as her immortal spirit should last.
“May her allegiance never waver,” the spirit of the wolves had sworn in her presentation, and vanished with a stout and dark-haired thing left crouching in her wake.
“Hello,” had said the empress, “aren’t you a pretty one?”
(A thousand years ago, it's said, the Empress favoured her guardian. Today, the story's not quite lost to time.)

Doc says it’s stupid, but Doc thinks everything she does is stupid, and the last time they had sex they were broken up before the cigarette in Doc’s mouth was even lit, so he probably hadn’t been the right choice of accomplice anyway. Ren needs somebody serious. She needs somebody hardcore. She needs somebody who’s been cheated on before - who knows how it feels.
She knows just the gal to find.

“Thank you.” She ducks inside, lets Gem lock the door behind her, and wiggles herself vigorously to shake off all the water to the floor. “How are you feeling?”
“Eh –“ she looks pretty obviously harried “- I’m making it work. Much better now that you’re here, though.”
