Summary
There was a polite, almost timid, knock on the door and Jimmy used the five seconds between Clark knocking and Clark assuming Jimmy wasn’t there to be interrupted to stare at the door with wide, bleary eyes, one shaking hand on his mattress and his moss-stuffed head racing to think of nothing at all.
“Jimmy?” Clark stepped through and frowned at him, instantly worried. He took all of three very purposeful, almost scary strides, to where Jimmy was and put one ice-cold palm on his forehead.
“Kansas, I’m sick, stay away.” Jimmy tried to push Clark’s hand away (moving a statue would be more effective). Clark somehow managed to grab his wrist and find his pulse.Series

Summary
Clark watched the bus trundle away, almost wistfully. It reminded Jimmy too much of the looks he’d seen on his cousin’s face when she passed an aquarium, just before she realized that she had her own money and could go through it if she wanted to. He still had the plushie she’d bought him just because she could.

Summary
His roommate liked to cook.
And Jimmy though he liked to cook, he’d grown up cooking with his parents, made the recipes they’d passed down his own. It wasn’t on his top ten list of all-time favorite activities though. Not like Clark who came in with a neatly organized bin of spices including powdered veggies that were probably not only homemade but also home grown, and cooked enough food for half the city every other day.
But he didn’t seem to like to eat. Not in front of people.Series

Summary
Clark knocked outside the door.
It had been half an hour and all Jimmy had done was swirl an empty paintbrush around in a cup.
“Come in, Clark.” Jimmy hurriedly started squirting paint onto the pallet. It was due in two days, and would probably, knowing his luck, need two days to dry.
Clark stumbled in with his arms full of bags and a cupholder with four coffees, two of them iced. He set the bags down on the counter and made his way to where Jimmy was sitting, staring at him.
“It’s complementary colors, right?”
“What?”
“The assignment. It’s using complementary colors, right?" Clark looked, frankly, a little too excited. The pressure of midterms as an English major were just as astronomical as art and it seemed it'd finally gotten to the man.Series

Summary
“I wonder who this ‘Metropolis Cat Savior’ guy is?” Jimmy squatted down next to Clark, who had, unsurprisingly, knelt amid a ring of cats, all of them vying for his affection. Clark’s grin dimmed a little and he froze, just for a second. Nervous but not flighty yet.

Summary
Jimmy switched the iced coffee between his hands in a vain attempt to keep them from freezing as they walked to class.
The ocean air had turned brutally cold as it wafted across the city, picking up ice crystals and dropping them back down on hapless college students as they trudged through the snow. Even the trees, which had been modified to keep their green well into November, had finally given up, their branches like fingers scolding the sky. Jimmy’s camera was tucked into his shirt and shielded by every layer he had on, but his hands were bare.
“Why don’t you wear gloves?” Clark frowned at Jimmy’s hand as he switched the cup again, pale spots faded from his palm and fingers as warmth returned.
Jimmy tapped the lump on his chest where the camera hid and shrugged. “They get in the way.”Series

Summary
Jimmy stared at the empty space on the table where Clark’s notebooks should be sprawled.
The seat beside him was empty, the air pressed against his side was cold without his friend’s abnormally high body temperature to heat it and he felt a little selfish to miss it as he pulled his jacket tighter over his shoulders.
Clark was busy.
The news footage of the storm played on the screen with unsteady cameras and shouts in a language Jimmy didn’t understand, a translation rolled away on the ticker tape.Series

Summary
“Do I have to?” Clark whined.
“Yes.”
“I have a paper to … edit.” Clark fidgeted with the jacket Jimmy had thrown over his shoulders.
“The one you’ve edited 14 times already?” Jimmy folded his arms over his chest. “We both know there’s a point where the words are not words anymore and I’m pretty sure you’ve crossed it.”
A little shy. Ma Kent had claimed. As if shy meant ‘quiet’ and not ‘runs away from rooms with more than two people at almost-too-fast-for-a-human speed’.
“Well.”
“You’re going.”
“But—“ Clark tried to protest again, and Jimmy broke out the big guns.
“You wouldn’t leave your best friend to go to a party all by himself would you? I need you, Clark.” Jimmy let his own social anxiety bubble up in his eyes. “I can’t go alone.”
It was true.
Sort of.
Parties weren’t as much fun without Clark, and as much as he covered for the man in secret he deserved to have fun.

Summary
Clark didn’t do well on his own.
It was a fact.
Grass was green, the sky was blue, the sun made his injuries disappear, Clark needed people. He kept himself at a distance, but he only truly thrived when there were people for him to love on, he only felt whole when he knew he would not come home to an empty house. And he couldn’t decide if that was an alien trait he would have to hide or if it was something normal, just how some people were.Series
