Summary
There has to be a reason why her heart is beating steadily against her frigid chest. Why oxygen is entering and exiting her lungs—her cold, dead lungs. Why, even without a brain, is she still able to breathe, talk, and think. She is a walking impossibility. The human body needs heat to survive. Warmth is an indicator of life. Humans are warm. Nothing about Jane is warm.
Nothing about Jane is alive.
Jane tries to not feel dead. (Even if it destroys her in the process.)

Summary
I don’t want to deal with my own thoughts, the unspoken words left a sour taste on Jane’s tongue and made her clasp her lips. She couldn’t explain it in a way that won’t have Blackwood stare in concern. Instead, Jane stared at Blackwood as if she could telepathically send the message into her brain.
She couldn’t.
Jane had a nightmare. (And gets comforted for it.)
