Buck glanced in the rearview mirror, concern etching his features as he noticed Emmett's subdued demeanor. "Hey E? Is everything okay?"
Emmett's small voice was tinged with sadness as he responded, "I'm just sad. Katie said a mean thing at school."
Tommy turned in his seat to face their son, his brow furrowed with worry. "What did she say, buddy?"
Emmett's lip quivered slightly as he struggled with the unfamiliar word. "She said my family was broken and she said... what's a bomination, Papa?"
