This work is very loosely based on the story of Persephone and other Greek myths. Charles (Persephone) is kidnapped by his horrible father (Hades) leaving his mother (Demeter) to suffer alone. Demeter eventually figures out where Charles has been taken and recruits a mortal named Edwin to go and rescue her son.

Edwin and Charles go after the book and find themselves in over their heads.
