Summary
The cacophony of voices around her blended in with the music that was still blasting through the house and Gwen tried to ignore it, assessing how she’d get off the man’s back and into the crowd without getting pulled into a fight where she was outnumbered.
Though, it seemed like fate had other ideas for her and all her escape routes were cut off. A blonde man stepped through the crowd, the people parting for him as he silently walked towards her and drew even more attention to them. The shouting had quieted and even the music had been lowered so Gwen could even hear herself think now. Whoever the man was, he had power.

Zenos didn’t even look at her as he continued to get dressed, his long blonde hair half covering his uninterested face. “I’m not arguing with you over this. My father will be there, he is expecting you,” he said, which only served to make Gwen laugh.
“Which is exactly why I’m not going! I told you months ago that I never wanted to meet your family and I fucking meant it. Your father should be tried for war crimes and I’m not having my face plastered all over the news because I went out to dinner with him,” she spat, stalking over to stand right in front of him. “This isn’t something you can get me to cave over.”

Gwen took another long drag off her cigarette and looked out at the barn in the back, trying to ignore the chatter coming from inside the house. Drawing straws to decide who would come out and talk to her, no doubt.
It wasn't even that she didn't want to talk to them, but more that she didn't know what she would say. An apology didn't feel right, not when she meant everything she said. And having any of them try to awkwardly apologize felt worse. Apologize for what? Them trying their best to not upset her but managing to only upset her more in the process – not that they knew that because she didn't know how to just open her damn mouth and say as much?
