Summary
Before she woke up Utahime with a very bizarre phone call, Shoko pulled up her messaging app and selected one of the few group chats she was in. Her fingers hovered over the keys with uncharacteristic uncertainty as she typed, backtracked, and retyped the message. Then Shoko decided she was running on too little sleep to find any subtlety, especially when no amount of subtlety would truly matter.

Fifteen years ago, a private bioengineering facility known as Project SORCERER went up in flames, along with the visionary and lead scientist. Impossibly, this did not end the Project from continuing, unbeknownst to those who escaped the first time. Until a twelve-year-old test subject comes stumbling out of the new lab, that is. Now a new goal emerges: destroy the lab again and rescue the next wave of super-powered kids who have only known the life of a science experiment.

Summary
“Not every upgrade must come as a response to a need for repair,” Kenjaku said, as cryptic and haughty as ever. “This is merely the natural progression of advancement.”
That sounded normal and logical, except in Satoru’s experience, enhancements had a higher risk of sucking majorly than fist-fighting a curse without infinity at all. It seemed… counterproductive. Satoru knew that his existence—all of theirs—was for the purpose of being stronger than the strongest curses, and that meant being poked and prodded accordingly, but… Well. It didn’t mean that he always liked it.
“You are the most sophisticated weapons this world has ever seen,” Kenjaku continued with a note of pride. “Past civilizations never stopped making their swords sharper, their bullets more impactful, and their bombs deadlier. Certain… ceilings may arise, of course, but the journey of improvement never truly ends. That is what makes it so interesting.”
With that, Kenjaku plunged a needle into Satoru’s neck.
The subjects of Project SORCERER were made to weapons, and they all knew that. However, among themselves, they can be something kinder. [Written for Febuwhump 2025, Day 18: Living Weapon]
