Summary
Nausea rising into his esophagus, Charles voices a thought he's had for a while, one Edwin had shot down the very first time he'd suggested it. "What about the tracking chip?" His left hand holds the needle. His right hand cups the boy's soft skin on the other side of his leg, holding Edwin steady, holding himself steady as he weaves Edwin's flesh back together. In the state he's in, he knows his hands must be chilling Edwin to the bone, but Edwin doesn't react to that any more than he does to the pain.
Or: Caught between a rock and a hard place, Charles suggests what he feels like is their only option: removing the tracking chip from Edwin's back himself.

Adjustment isn't their thing, it's Mari's. They find things for people. Find routes of safety. Sneak them out of danger. Transport and procurement, that's their thing.
"I know." Mari's eyes go to Edwin. "I know. I'm sorry. I know we shouldn't, but..."
It hits Charles like a punch to the gut. Whatever power this new girl has, it's dangerous to people. Dangerous enough that Mari doesn't feel like her crew can handle it.
Dangerous enough that they want Edwin.
