Summary
Sometimes their conversations become heated and it is then that she realizes that even in a perfect world, they will never truly be compatible. There is a hunger in him. An insatiable one she fears that someday, will devour her whole. It is not only in his words that she senses this. It is in the way he touches her, too, ravenously, like he is determined to consume her.
Someday, he will. She knows that.
It is only a matter of when.
After he partakes of her, he holds her close and strokes her hair, and then he whispers in her ear with a certain tenderness that sends a chill up her spine. He says, “You’re mine.”
“And I’m yours,” she replies, because it is what he wishes to hear.
Even the iron still fears the rot.
In her mind, she is hiding from something she cannot stop.

There is a shadow in the corner of his room, standing there. She looks like a corpse, yet she moves.
He cannot.
Even when it draws closer and he knows it is her, he cannot attempt to touch her. She straddles him and he feels a pressure resting over his chest. Despite the state of her, there is a sweetness in the way she regards him, as her hands skim up his torso. Then she rests her head against him and lays there, with all her weight, like she is determined to suffocate him. Get off of me, he thinks, yet his limbs do not yield when he demands they move.
She does not listen.
