Summary
His hands clutched desperately at Sylus, but he wasn't trying to push away anymore. He was holding on, anchoring himself, because without something solid to grip he thought he might actually come apart.
The warmth continued spreading, through his chest, down his arms, pooling low in his stomach before radiating out to his fingers and toes. It was like being submerged in the most perfect bath, the temperature exactly right, the sensation of it seeping into his very bones.
But it wasn't just physical. The venom did something to his mind too, smoothing away the sharp edges of thought, softening everything that had been hard and angry and desperate. The fear dissolved. The humiliation faded.
All that remained was this.
This perfect, crystalline moment of absolute bliss.

Summary
"You look tired," Sylus said.
"I'm fine."
"You're pale," Sylus's hand came up without preamble, fingers curling around Caleb's jaw and turning his face slightly, examining him the way one might examine something that belonged to them. Caleb resisted the urge to pull away, mostly because pulling away would have meant admitting it bothered him, and he'd learned that Sylus found his irritation more entertaining than anything else.
"I said I'm fine," Caleb repeated, more quietly.
"And I heard you," Sylus released his jaw with an almost leisurely slowness, hand dropping to rest on the back of the sofa behind Caleb's shoulders, "That doesn't mean you are."
Caleb felt a surge of irritation, how could this vampire possibly know what he’s feeling, "I came before it got bad I think that's enough."
"Progress," Sylus agreed, "It means you're being sensible instead of punishing yourself."
"I'm not sure sensible is the right word for any part of this,” Caleb couldn't even laugh.
"No," Sylus conceded, "Perhaps not."
