Summary
When Maysilee opens the door, she almost drops the knife in shock. Almost.
And she realizes in a single horrible incident that she cannot confront the person standing on the other side of the mahogany door. This is perhaps one of the only people that she cannot bear to face.
Lenore Dove stands on the marble steps leading to Maysilee’s front door, her clothing soaked through with raindrops, her brown skin slick with rainwater and curls plastered to her neck and forehead. She’s breathing heavily like she’s been running, no sprinting, and though she’s squinting in the pouring rain, though her lashes are catching raindrops that likely blur her vision, Maysilee can see the determination in her eyes.

Summary
Finally, Lenore Dove brings a hand down to rest on one of Maysilee's shoulders. There's a slight hesitation, and then her fingers are hooking into the thin strap of Maysilee's tank top. Lenore Dove's eyes flicker down to where her hand is, her lips parting in a long, trembling inhale of need.
"I want to feel you," she pleads, her eyes flicking back up to Maysilee's. "I-I want to feel that you're still here."
The realization of what Lenore Dove is implying finally clicks into place for Maysilee.
Her sleep-deprived mind, though now wide awake, can't seem to comprehend that this is real. That this isn't a shameful fantasy, that Lenore Dove is on top of her, wild curls and darkened eyes bathed in firelight, waiting for Maysilee's permission to touch her.

Summary
Maysilee's hands tremble slightly as she cups Lenore Dove's calf again, as she pulls off Lenore Dove's boot and sets it aside, but this time, she forces her touch to linger. She keeps her hand pressed to the back of Lenore Dove's calf, breathes through the resulting rush of panicked nerves that surge forward as her thumb shakily strokes the muscle beneath the fabric of her pants.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Lenore Dove asks, a bit more nervous now. She scoots a little closer to the edge of the bench, her hands moving as if to guide Maysilee up to sit with her. "If something is bothering you, you can tell me, I… I'm here, Maysilee, I'm right—"
Lenore Dove's rushed reassurances are abruptly cut off, catching in her chest with a small hitching sound as Maysilee presses her lips to the inside of Lenore Dove's knee.
