In this series, Faramir is Aragorn's son, although neither of them know that until Faramir finds out at the start of the Fourth Age. The stories taking place in the immediate wake of the Ring War can all be read as canon compliant. They are being reorganized into in the sub-series "The King and his Steward: the Early Years."

In the first year of the First Age, Faramir learns that his mother Finduilas, desperate for a second child her husband was unwilling to give her due to her delicate health, drugged her friend Thorongil and stole a child from him. The stories taking place after that point are being reorganized into the "Desperation's Gift" series.

Stories featuring characters other than Faramir have been reorganized into appropriate sub-series(es). See the Notes below.

Please note that stories featuring Faramir taking place before the Ring War are being re-organized into the 'Third Age in Twilight' series.

The Desperate Hours series also contains stories featuring one or more of: 1) my other favorite characters (Elrond, Galadriel, and Maedhros); 2) Thranduil; 3) Glorfindel; 4) certain minor canon characters (Erestor and Melpomaen); and 5) certain original characters (Arandil Glorfindelchil, Ecthelion 'Theli' Diorchil (the grandson of Elurin) and Theli's wife, Mithiriel Faramiriel).

Stories featuring Maedhros and Fingon as a romantic couple can be found in the "Tales of Oversea in the Fourth Age" series, or if you sort my works by the Maedhros character tag.

Stories featuring Erestor and Melpomaen can be found in the "Tales of the Elves of Imladris" series (which can be located through the Elrond sub-series). Stories featuring Theli can be found in the "Tales of the Elves of the Greenwood." It can be found if you sort by the Thranduil tag. Stories featuring Mithiriel can be found in "Tales of the Telcontars." It can be found if you sort by the Faramir tag.

I've written (or co-written) a number of 'AU of the Desperate Hours AU' series(es). For more information, you can see my Fanon story chapter (mentioned above) once it is posted. I write and post these two different versions of my stories because I see corporal punishment as an extreme expression of caring and protectiveness, when it takes place in a medieval-type society. So, I sometimes like to include threats of, or references to, physical discipline as a consequence (usually for dangerous recklessness). The only difference between the two versions of my stories is that a lecture scene in the gen version will include a threat of corporal punishment as well as a lecture in the discipline AU version. Rarely, the discipline AU version of the story will also include an actual discipline scene. The discipline scenes are usually between adult male mentor/father characters and adult male protege/son characters (although I do also write some consensual erotic type discipline scenes between committed romantic partners).
