“I genuinely didn’t know I had a phone,” Bucky says. “I’m still not convinced that I do.”
“I’m not...I’m not trying to bother you, Bucky,” Peter says dejectedly. “Bucky? Sergeant Barnes? Mr. Soldier? I don’t know what you like to be called.”
“I don’t like to be called,” Bucky says, sparing him a smile. “That’s why I don’t have a phone.”
He’s all the way to the other side of the track before he hears Peter hollering, “Wait, was that a joke?”

“I don’t like dogs,” Bucky says.
“I know you don’t like dogs,” Louis says with a smile. “We’ll have to work on that.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Louis says, stroking his thumb over Bucky’s metal wrist. It’s a light touch, but sometimes that’s almost worse, and Bucky shudders as his mechanoreceptors go a little haywire from the unexpected contact.
Bucky rolls and he rolls until he changes his luck.

There are two categories of energy. There’s kinetic energy, the energy of motion. The energy of Bucky reaching through space and time against all the odds to meet Louis, to run after him down the street, to touch his body and kiss his sacred mouth.

“You’re not any kind of problem,” Louis says, and he tucks Bucky’s hair back behind his ears and places his fingers on Bucky’s chin to tip his face up. “Sometimes, things just break and don’t heal right the first time. It might hurt a little bit, and some things that were fixed might get broken again. But you deserve to heal properly.”

Like always, Bucky is completely aware of every inch of his own body, perfectly mindful of each place where his skin touches Louis’ skin, and equally aware of the places where Louis’ skin touches his clothing. There is a comfort in the closeness, and Bucky knows that it’s never going to mean the same thing to him that it does to Louis. It just won’t, and they both know that, and it’s not an issue. There’s an ease to this feeling of being accepted, knowing that Louis isn’t waiting for him to change into someone different. That he’s already complete and good enough. They wrought this relationship together from absolutely nothing, and now they’re perfect.
