Prince Edwin Payne of Hilarion, accompanied by his first knight and childhood best friend Sir Charles Rowland, travels to the kingdom of Townsend to secure the peace treaty between the two nations. Upon arrival, he is told that he is to be wed to the infamous Cat King, Thomas Kitt of Catting, the man who notoriously betrayed his kingdom to pledge his loyalty to the Witch Queen, Esther Finch.
However, Edwin and Charles quickly learn that not all is as it seems in Townsend, especially when it comes to the Cat King. In fact, if any of them plan to survive this marriage unscathed, they must all learn to trust one another — both with their lives and with their hearts.

Summary
Crystal Palace moves to Port Townsend, Washington. Already tired of her new school, she spots someone interesting: Niko Sasaki. She wants to ask her out, but her new friend Monty informs her of the rule: Niko can only date when her adoptive brother Edwin does.
Crystal doesn't mind that so much. After all, she's got plenty of her family's money, as well as a man who's willing to spend his own money to try to date Niko. The only problem is finding someone willing to date Edwin.
There's Edwin's best friend, Charles, but other than being devastatingly straight, he won't accept money or betray Edwin like that. There's Monty, who Edwin already turned down. And it seems like everyone else at Port Townsend high is scared of him. Which leaves one person: so-called bad boy Thomas King.
Crystal just has to trust that this won't all backfire.

“And this-” he shifts his grip and pulls the necklace taught around Charles’s throat, “how does this make you feel?”
Charles can’t suppress the shudder, nor the choked gasp. He isn’t sure he wants to. “Good.” It’s the tamest word swirling about his head that gets pulled into the air.
“Oh, I’m sure. I knew I clocked you right away, with that ridiculous bat twirling and the death glare.” The Cat King’s other hand comes up to grip Charles’s chin. Charles wants to fall forward, closer to warmth and touch and bliss. “A barking little pup eager to prove himself to his master.”
in which charles gets dragged into self-discovery, the cat king is a menace, and edwin is very lost but very on board.

If you were nice, you’d tell her that fumbling through the first few times is basically a sacred part of being sapphic. You’d remind her that her girl loves her a sickening amount (gag), that she wouldn’t mind showing her the ropes (literal or otherwise), that the two of them will probably do something sappy and perfectly them, like figuring it all out together. You’d send her on her merry way with nothing but a pep talk, and maybe in 3 to 5 business days, you’d get a fucking fruit basket signed by the two of them.

It isn’t that Charles forgot that love bites usually linger. Just that he sort of… forgot how they could deepen, didn’t he, when given the time he and Edwin don’t have. Because right now, Thomas is the poster boy. A contrast of golden skin and red bite marks.

Edwin raises a judgmental eyebrow as he eyes his apparent abductor from hood to heels. That is a lot of cloak, and he can’t help a mildly incredulous, “Really?”
The hooded head tilts to the side thoughtfully as they come to a stop in front of him. “Well now, that’s not very nice, is it, little ghost?” Edwin startles at the unfamiliar masculine voice rolling low and rough from the shadowed depths of the hood. For some reason he’d expected—well, no matter.
“Why should I be nice to someone who has abducted me?” he demands as haughtily as he can, holding up his bound hands pointedly. “And tied me up, no less.”

“What's your business here?” Thomas asks, always having far less patience for bullshit than his partner in supernatural crime.

A reputation of dangerous beauty, intoxicating charm; of a smile sharp when it grinned into the bright young faces of hapless townspeople, and sharper still when it sank into their chests to taste their beating hearts.
A chilling little story, to be sure, and a concerning one to have slunk its way to their doorstep, but Edwin wasn’t overly worried about it.
After all, the Wizard King only ate the hearts of the pretty ones.
He was Edwin Payne of Payne & Sons Bespoke Tailoring; he was always and only of Payne & Sons. Such was his station in life, a role he himself was tailor-made for. A role he fit like a drab but finely-crafted glove. And so it went—until the day a wizard and a witch conspired to turn his tidy little life upside down.
