It was just… Pop Idol Vanessa Mystery never got to have its own live action movie or series, even though the fans had been begging for it for years. (Well. There was one adaptation. The movie that made the main four act like sisters, and gave Vanessa some random boyfriend. It Was Not To Be Spoken Of.) Niko had always wanted to see her childhood crushes on the big screen, saying all the brave things she could only dream of.
So when the genie asked, in a deep, portentous voice, “What is your greatest wish?”, Niko (very understandably) said, “I want my favorite manga to come to life!”Or: A genie takes a wish too literally. Everyone deals with the consequences.

He reached for his breast pocket, wanting to take notes so he could have some sense of normalcy in this nightmare, but to his utter dismay, his book wasn’t there either. Monty cawed, the sound almost confused, as much as a bird can sound confused. However, despite the nonsensicality he felt in doing so, Edwin answered the question that hadn’t been asked.

Summary
Ghosts didn't get cold.
They didn't get hot either, for that matter; the temperature simply did not affect the undead. It was one of the milder, not-particularly-imporant aspects of being a ghost in the grand scheme of things, but as detectives, Edwin and Charles took advantage of this fact endlessly. Their cases had an uncanny way of forcing them to visit rather unpleasant places.
As helpful as it was, though, it also made things all the more difficult when they did begin to be able to feel again.

She does, and she watches as Niko closes her laptop and crosses her legs over Crystal’s bed, hands on her knees and knuckles white. She leans in closer, so close Crystal can smell the flowery scent of her shampoo, feel the beat of her heartbeat tense with anticipation. The squeal of the kettle fades into the background and Crystal feels her cheeks blush, as she presses herself against the wall and avoids looking into Niko’s eyes.
“Listen to me and answer very carefully,” Niko whispers. “Do you know who Luke’s father is.”
“… What.”
