Byleth reached over and took the other’s cup, their fingertips brushing and sparking fire up to his wrist. “It’s a good thing you won’t be drinking it, then.” He said coolly, drinking from the metal mug with a straight face until it was mostly gone. Claude was right, it tasted like wash bin water compared to the wine they kept up in the staff quarters. However, Byleth wouldn’t feel right about leaving the other to his own devices after a hearty mug of alcohol, no matter the source.
“Woah-ho! You’re gonna drink both of them?” He asked with a disbelieving grin, head cocked as his green eyes twinkled mischeviously in the firelight. “You sure you can handle it?” He snickered teasingly, and Byleth lifted a brow at him.
“You’ve no idea what I can handle.” He said dismissively, and Claude’s smile faltered for just a second, eyes flashing like a star shot across their reflective surfaces.
“I look forward to finding out.” The other hummed with a chuckle, rich and warmer than the pit of Byleth’s stomach where the wine settled like fire.
