Summary
Five years after the Liberation War, a mission to extract a mole in the ADVENT Remnants goes horribly wrong. With the threat of traitors amongst XCOM's ranks, former operative William Mackenzie is pulled out of retirement. William enters into a world alien to the one he left behind, a world trying to rebuild from the destruction of the Liberation War and wipe away the taint of the Elders. He soon finds himself falling down a rabbit hole of terrorist plots, schemes and conspiracies in a secret war that could end XCOM itself.
And leading him into a new world is the only survivor of the failed extraction: a jaded, chubby, French-accented viper.

A contracted XCOM reconnaissance asset is made to push her luck escorting a mangled survivor from the latest attack on an ADVENT outpost. Being out of her comfort zone, depth, and not trusting XCOM to keep their word, things quickly fall apart. The cracks start to show in her ability to handle situations, due to being little more than a roaming survivor looking for a steady source of food that has now been pushed to deal with threats she has only observed from afar until recently.
To add to her issues, the survivor from the battle doesn't even have the good grace to be vaguely human or walk on legs. Putting on a brave face can only last so long when all the previous work has kept her safe, away from harm, and has let her problems stay buried deep inside.

Everything was going fine on Earth, though the sightings from NASA exploring the stars have been unsettling. Then They came, Sectoids, Mutions, Floaters, and those damn Lids. They invaded Earth, taking over the governments under one banner. ADVENT. The Commander of the XCOM project(The Reader) was captured during this. Twenty years later, a few years after Remnant and the Galactic Republic have joined the Psionic Wars against the Elders and Advent and a week before Unification Day, Team RWBY and Delta Squad of the COG have been sent to Earth to aid XCOM and free the Commander. Team RWBY have also been sent to find the two teams that were sent before them, Team CFVY and Team SSSN. Can these Huntresses and Soldiers help save the day, or will the War be prolonged even more.

It was a new world Jynn found herself waking up to, so much had changed within those 20 years of experimentation and imprisonment in that suit. She was thankful to be free of that hell but hesitant to take on the roll she found herself thrusted back into. Commander of XCOM, a mere memory of what it once was. They had a lot on their plate, build up the resistance, sabotage ADVENT and the aliens, and take back the Earth from the Elders.
It was no help that the Elders wanted her back badly. Hunting them down like a pack of wild dogs, undermining their cause at every turn.
