Annie tries to think of a world where love doesn’t exist. Maybe people wouldn’t suffer that much then. Or perhaps they’d suffer more. She doesn’t know. Philosophical topics are intellectual masturbation to her. Rarely leading anywhere, and the post-nut clarity is a bitch to get rid of. She never comes out of it wiser than she went in.
Annie sighs, reluctantly. Well, she’s sober, anyway.
“Need a ride home?”
Mikasa glances at her, eyes rimmed red, though she looks away just as quickly. Annie hopes she’ll decline the offer, but she truly looks miserable. And some part of her, buried deep in her chest, knows no one will come looking for her at this hour. Everyone’s either gone or wasted beyond recognition. She’s Mikasa’s last hope for the night.

“You met who?” Manon says, staring at her like she’s lost her mind.
Megan pokes at the ice in her matcha latte with her straw.
“I don’t even know,” she says. “Some random girl joined my Minecraft world and just — started building a mansion. Like. Who does that?”
She takes a sip, sucks a little too hard, and immediately winces when a shard of ice pokes the back of her throat.
“Ow — fuck.”
Manon doesn’t look impressed.
“I’m not even convinced she’s a girl,” Megan adds.
Manon gives her a look.
“Dude. You know how Minecraft works, right? You have to be pretty close to join someone’s world, and on the same Wi-Fi.”
Megan pauses.
Manon continues, smug now.
“So yeah. She’s a girl. And she’s probably somewhere in your dorm.”

In fact, scratch that! Everyone warns you about the risks of dating your coworker and why you shouldn't do it. If only Mikasa and Annie had paid attention to what Hange said six years ago, maybe they wouldn't have so many heartbreak songs in their discography.
But then, also, their fans wouldn't have so many good songs to listen to.
Or, Rock Band AU where Mikasa Ackerman and Annie Leonhart really don't know when to stop and talk about their feelings, making it a problem for the whole band.
