Summary
AU 15-year old Portgas D. Ace was left with a newborn little brother after his parents’ deaths. While he first contemplates abandoning Luffy, upon seeing his brother’s smile, he vows to protect him at all costs. Ace struggles to adapt to parenthood and keeping to himself as to not draw any suspicious eyes. But upon making a powerful enemy from a neighborhood gang, the feared gang leader Whitebeards makes him an offer. Now Ace must balance the difficult road ahead of him while keeping his brother safe. Thankfully, he makes some good friends and Luffy who cheers him on all the way.

He pressed his nails into his palm as hard as he could to escape the haze that had once again fallen into his mind. Benn hummed while he absentmindedly patted the boy on his head. "And do you know why?"
Luffy's eyebrows knotted together in concentration. He kept silent like this for almost a minute before his expression brightened up again. "Nope!"
Shanks gave the child a sappy smile and nodded sagely. "Of course, you wouldn't know what went through the head of those stinky barbarians." Privately he wondered if another smile like that would be enough to kill him.
Luffy laughed brightly. "You're weird."
Seems like he'd find out sooner than later.

And when Luffy’s arms retracted back to himself and started shrinking, air hissing every which way, Ace assumed it was because Luffy was going to try another method and thus took the opportunity to dive straight into his little brother’s space in this moment of vulnerability to knock him out with one clean punch—only to skid straight to a stop as the steam cleared and Ace came face to face with a small Luffy staring belligerently right up at him with his little head only barely reaching past Ace’s knees.
