Summary
L pushed Light into the bed like they were fighting. Hands rough—and Light wondered how he got them to be calloused like restored leather. Smoke curled around them like chains. Light smiled partly, finally feeling alive. Lips dragging cold on his chest, teeth into jugular. Hair pulled under the overhead light. Sweet nothings dripping with sarcasm, loud and secret behind the soundproof of the room. A dream on its last rattle breath with a meat-honey scent to it.

Summary
A slice of cake offered in smooth hands with a candle flickering. Smoke curled around them like chains. Light’s smile partly obscured. The juice of strawberries licked from lips, the taste of whip cream on tongues. The last day of October held close. Hair pulled in darkened corners. Sweet nothings nowhere near above the creak of floorboards. A dream to last a lifetime would not see a month’s extension.

Summary
The moment between Chris being found and taking Buck home.
Buck dived into the water—the cold a shock to his chest—because even if he never says it aloud, that’s his kid. His. And it feels wrong to even think it. His mother just died, and Eddie is the seed, but no one can tell him what to feel in the solitude of his thoughts. That's his son.

Summary
If he closes his eyes, he can already see Eddie in the loft. Clear as day, like he can conjure him with sheer force of will. A lighthearted joke in a deep voice, the clink of beer bottles, the sun refracting off a St. Christopher necklace. He can see himself in Eddie’s house, in old ARMY shirts that don’t belong to him. Burnt pancakes on Sundays and Eddie claiming this is Mass for him—Christopher and Buck. He knows Buck doesn’t believe in his god and Eddie amends, “This is the universe for me.”
