The trouble starts at the tailor's, which is strange to even think, let alone experience. A year ago Credence Barebone was happy to have clothes that had holes in just the elbows and knees. Now he doesn't even twitch when Samson, the tailor's excitable apprentice, sticks him with a pin on accident.
It's not the strangest thing that's happened to Credence this year, but it's close.
"So," Samson says cheerfully, pricking Credence again as he pins up some loose fabric around Credence's shoulders, "are you going to the Ball?"

Summary
The first thing Percival Graves does after being released back into the world is buy a new wand. The Aurors recovered his ebony wand from Grindelwald but Graves can’t even look at it, let alone pick it up. He goes to Greymalkin’s the minute he’s let out of the hospital and tries half a dozen wands. Some spark, a few smoke, but only one really works. The wand that chooses him is raw aspen, whiter than bone and so rough that Graves gives himself a splinter conjuring up a storm of brilliant red birds.
Greymalkin eyes the wand distrustfully. “Eleven and a half inches,” he says, sounding sour. “With a dragon heartstring core. One of Ollivander’s. Shoddy work, if you ask me.”
The wand hums against his fingertips. Graves buys it, tucks it up under his sleeve, and keeps it there, splinters and all, until he manages to fall into a fitful sleep later that night.
The second thing Graves does is quit his job, because honestly.
The third thing Graves does is get jumped by Credence Barebone in an alley.

"You see there’s a bug in the great supercomputer of our collective unconscious that’s filed rape in the sex folder not the torture folder. (...) You know, rape was only recognised as a war crime in 2014. That’s how badly we misfiled it."
This is really important. REALLY important. Reframing! To actually be able to acknowledge and own that what happened that traumatized you was NOT OKAY, that it hurt, that it we no longer need to make excuses for it, that we no longer need to feel ashamed because of it. Be it military trauma, domestic violence, rape, medical trauma, etc.
An incredibly well-written fic and actually so light in mood that it doesn't drag the reader down the same way many fics often do. (I read it from the bottom up, I was so afraid of feeling low from reading it.) Brilliantly done.

Thorin Brandybuck, just recently come of age, still lives in his family’s smial in Buckland, with his parents and two younger siblings. Thorin is an odd duck amongst his relations and neighbours-- unsociable, grumpy, shy, and awkward. And beyond that, he looks rather strange even for a Bucklander, strongly favouring the thick, dark haired build of his Stoorish blood.
It defies all sense and reason why Bilbo Baggins, an exemplar of all the respectable traits Thorin lacked, would ever desire a friendship with him.
Bilbo, as Thorin discovers, is not always as sensible as he appears.

Grantaire responds to that by slamming his tail right into Enjolras’ gut.

Enjolras is a knight in slightly battered armor and Grantaire is the laziest dragon in all of history. The road to happily ever after was apparently paved with much more bickering than Enjolras had expected. (Or the one where curses and emotions make everything complicated.)
