Summary
Here's the thing: Jim might have woken up in the past. He might have also woken in an alien simulation or a telepathic recreation of his past. This might even be a whole other reality.
But, with no way to be sure, there's really only one decision to make. As long as the chances aren't zero, Jim has to try to stop the upcoming destruction of Vulcan.

Summary
Before Jim can fully understand the deep love he's always shared with Bones, or express the affection he feels for him that goes well beyond brotherhood, an accident changes things forever.
Bones will never forgive himself for not giving the man he loves a second chance or being more forthright with him. Now that he has an innocent, four-year-old boy named Jimmy on his hands on the Yorktown, he vows to protect him at all costs while searching for a cure. He knows what awaits Jim back in Riverside. He'll die first before sending a vulnerable child back to that place.

Summary
Spock dies as a result of Pon Farr when he chooses to leave the Enterprise for New Vulcan instead of telling Jim. Jim learns afterward they were t'hy'la and if they had been together, he could have prevented Spock's Death. He is visited by a "Q" who advises him that he was as disappointed in the result of their story as Jim was. He offers Jim a Second Chance to form a relationship with Spock. Jim can send his young self 12 letters to try and save Spock and their relationship.
