Ch. 2: Grace regains some of his memories from before the crash and recalls that a waterborne, infectious disease is spreading across the galaxy. Which isn’t… great news. He also leaves the pod and discovers some local plant and animal life, including something that he ends up designating ‘acid mushrooms.’ He returns to the pod after he finishes exploring.

If everyone actually believed Ryland Grace was from the future, things would probably be going a lot better for him.
Unfortunately, his foreknowledge of the explosion that would have killed Shapiro and Dubois has made many people believe that he was behind it. Opinion is divided over whether it was a deliberate terrorist attempt, or if he's simply lost his mind.

Worried for Grace's well-being, Rocky plans several different ways to provide Grace with the touching intimacy he needs to be healthy. Rocky expects to be praised for his initiative and ingenuity, but instead Grace's reaction is…concerning.
I realize that as I’ve been imagining a human hug, I’ve actually stressed myself out a little. I can’t help but frown and slightly grimace at the thought. This can’t be normal. Humans enjoy touching! Imagining a hug should be pleasant. It should reduce stress.

Summary
A few months into their trip to Erid, an unsettling dream quickly takes a turn for the worse as Grace and Rocky realise they're dealing with something that can go beyond the boundaries of their natural perception. Something that dwells in an ocean of blood and wants nothing more than to live.
But living is a loaded term. It couldn't save him as he was, so the sapling needs new soil...and it has found the Hail Mary.
