"I'm your father," he replies gently.

"F-ather," Damian repeats clumsily. He knows what the word means, but he can't associate it with an experience. Now that he thinks about it, he has zero experiences to draw from. His mind is an empty void. He does not know who he is, aside from his name, and he does not know what he is supposed to do.

"That's right," his father hums in agreement. "I'm your father, you're my son, and now you're home."

    Summary

He heard the yells from outside. Saw the civilian's face turning to ash as they realized they had just given out their positions. The quiet unlatching of something in the distance. The canister dropped in the room and rolled on the ground.

Only when it released Scarecrow's fear gas all over the small, badly ventilated room did he manage to move again.

    -
Damian gets a whiff of fear gas, except neither him or his family realize it.

    Summary

“He found himself wondering if anyone would notice before the spell was up. It seemed unlikely; there were often stretches where contact was limited between him and his family. Normally, it was not born from necessity but rather strife. And perhaps strife would bleed from this.

    He hoped not.”

When a confrontation with a powerful magic user goes awry, Damian is cursed, robbing him of his voice. Or, communicate without a fresh bruise appearing, that is.

What begins as an inconvenience quickly spirals into something far worse, as he finds himself struggling with the mounting realization: no one has noticed. As his silence deepens, so do the rifts with his family. He’s not helped by the many more sinister theories the people around him assume because of his new temperament.

One thing is certain: he really, really hates magic.

Damian Wayne was raised to be perfect in every sense of the word. That was expected of him the moment he began training. So, late one night after patrol, when his brothers tease his slight Arab accent, he thinks there's something wrong with him. Suddenly aware and growing insecure of his accent leads him to grow insecure of his skin, leading him to grow insecure of his weight, leading him down a spiral. He needs to be perfect. He will do everything in his power to be perfect, as to not bring shame onto his family name. He will be perfect, even if it destroys him.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is an incredible example of writing with emotion! While there are always some aspects that can be improved on in your average first draft, this piece can stand alone incredibly well with its narrative! You can easily follow along with the story even though I’ve never really been into the Batman family vibes, and the characters are incredibly interesting! I also love and appreciate the shown accents and diversity within the cast (including both family, villains, schoolmates, and Superman’s family). Overall a powerful read that can be studied to figure out how to pace intense scenes, write and build upon complex scenarios, and effectively write an unreliable spiraling character.

    Summary

To save the world from utter destruction, a person's memory was required. Not their memories, but everyone else's memories of them. They would be fundamentally erased from existence. Like they were never even there at all.

The moment Superman told them that, his face sunken and his eyes hollow, Damian knew it had to be him.

    Or:

Damian Wayne is forgotten by the entire world. "Starting over" is more painful then he imagined.

[A guide with a... questionable success rate]

    Bookmarker's Notes

Genuinely one of the best fics I’ve read. It was heart wrenching and relatable in gut twisting ways, but also was deeply comforting. Seeing Damian reunite with Titus had me crying ngl…
