Summary
Magnus had known for days that something was going on with Alec; that he was working through something. So, it hadn’t been all that much of a surprise when Alec had come home saying they needed to talk. Well, not so much that they needed to talk, but more that Alec needed to tell him something.
The last thing he’d been expecting was for Alec to flip open the box, exposing its contents; dozens of bound journals he recognised immediately. Truth be told he hasn’t thought about those journals in years.
And Magnus’ stomach drops. Because it’s been, what… two? three? days since Magnus last saw his boyfriend and Alec looks destroyed. For a moment Magnus wondered if he’s missed something big happening but then his brain caught up and Magnus realised that Alec wasn’t injured and that he wasn’t just exhausted.
It’s heartbreak –Alec is heartbroken– and Magnus’ head spun because he knows it’s because of him.

“Unicorn hunting is a term from your time but it evolved over the centuries,” the Doctor said. “In your time it means a couple look for a single woman to form a throuple with. The woman— the unicorn— is made to commit to the relationship without all of the benefits. She’s just a novelty for the couple to play with. But the practice grew even more toxic. In the 51st century, unicorn hunters usually find their prey in situations impossible to get out of and they exploit them. The unicorn has no choice but to turn into their perfect sex slave to keep them happy and stay alive. Unicorn hunters are the most sadistic, vile beings in the universe.”
“Doctor,” she said, her voice quiet. She didn’t want to say the thought that just popped into her head. She wished this day had never happened.
“What is it, Rose?”
She swallowed. “Did we… hunt Jack?”

Alec had gotten (and he'd counted) six pep talks from Jace, two well meaning baked goods from Izzy that he'd thrown away, and worst of all, one "encouraging" slap on the back from Clary. He was as ready as he ever would be to tell his boyfriend the one secret he hadn't been able to bring himself to share. Despite his many, many, many reservations, he knows that Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn and lover of all things different, wouldn't care about the thing that set him apart even from other Shadowhunters.
His wings.
But when a comment thrown out in anger leads Alec to believe Magnus would never accept him, will they find their way through?
