"'Brat'. 'Kid'." Ace finally looked up, and his eyes, usually so bright and full of fire, were clouded with something Smoker couldn't quite place. "I know you don't mean anything by it, but–” he paused for a minute as if searching for the words to explain but ultimately falling short, instead huffing out an annoyed, “I don't know. It just gets to me sometimes."
Or; smoker wants to be the tenderness that ace yearns for. Even if it means using pet names for the first time.

Sabo wanted to be better. Replaying that night over and over again in his mind, made him hyperfixate on his mistakes. He found himself obsessing over every moment, mistake and misstep. Every moment he wished he could do over. Make it even better for the both of them.
So when the next mission briefing came and the plan called for someone to use charm and seduction to get close, Sabo spoke before he could second guess himself. And for the first time in his life, he volunteered.
