Changed his mind. Stuff happened. Almost lost each other for real this time.

He had felt his grasp on the peaceful fragile existence for himself, for themselves, slip. Now, he stands before its shattered pieces.He dares not move. He would shatter to pieces here and now himself, if he dared so much as twitch a finger. He hardly even wonders what the humans crowding Whickber Street just like any other old place in London Soho might see. A dark man-shaped being next to a vintage car, keeping cool composure. Probably not even as much. It's reality, angel, no one notices anything.
There is Aziraphale’s voice, distant and muffled behind the window. He seems to be struggling for words. “I … I think I …”
And then it all goes very quickly.“I can’t. I made a mistake.”

A little play on: What if Aziraphale really did finish his sentence after “I think I …” when the Metatron came to take him back to Heaven after the kiss? What if he did actually say, “I think I made a mistake”? What if he changed his mind? What if Crowley did not have to wait by the Bentley just to watch Aziraphale leave?
