    Summary

For once, Matt Murdock is actually enjoying his life. The law firm Nelson & Murdock is going strong, he's happily dating Karen Page, and he has a pretty amazing new intern working for him—Peter Parker, who always seems to be hiding something. All in all, Matt's happy.

It's only a matter of time before Wilson Fisk tears it all down.

As the Kingpin amasses power after the blip, everything that Matt holds dear—his life, his love, his friends—lies in the balance. If he wants to keep everything together... he'll have to let the Devil out once again.

    -----

"Let every man, woman, and child who dies at my hands," Fisk began, then raised his voice higher. Matt winced. "Let their blood be on your head."

The smell of crusting blood and stitching filled Matt's nose. His ribs ached with every breath. There was nothing but the pain, the swelling and the searing, the agony of Fisk's own handiwork. Matt clenched his fists.

"And there will be blood, Mr. Murdock. When this city is in my hands... there will be more blood than even you can atone for."

    Summary

This is the fourth entry in my series of legal commentaries. With everyone talking about Matt Murdock, “a really good lawyer,” after Spider-Man: No Way Home, I was reminded that I hadn’t yet tackled the legal issues in The Defenders. So here is my take on them, focusing mostly on Matt’s big cross-examination scene in the Aaron James trial.

Season three of Daredevil didn’t feature any big courtroom scenes (big sigh of relief from me), but quite a few interesting legal issues popped up over the course of the season.

This is the one that started it all. I had (still have) some strong opinions about the case of People v. Frank Castle and just had to get them off my chest. So I posted them on Tumblr and now here. This is my “compendium” of the legal errors before and during Frank Castle’s trial in season two of Daredevil, along with a few other goofs not related to the trial. A few preliminary comments: Daredevil was a TV series, so strict adherence to reality is not expected. Some things will always be done for dramatic effect or to keep the story moving along. But I don’t think that explains or excuses all of these errors.

This is the first of a series of four legal commentaries on Daredevil and The Defenders that I originally posted on Tumblr (@appellatedefender). I recently learned that nonfiction works like these are allowed here, so I'm posting them here, too. I'm posting them mainly to archive them, but you're welcome to read them, of course, if you're interested.
