Summary
Andrea Sachs couldn't stand Emily Charlton at all. Emily Charlton couldn't stand Andrea Sachs at all. It was one of the few things they could completely agree on.
Emily Charlton is a fortress built from sarcasm, control, and years of carefully honed self-preservation. Andrea Sachs was supposed to do one thing: work beside her and survive Runway. Instead, she finds herself trapped in something far more dangerous: the habit of searching for Emily in every room, remembering every gesture, and finding meaning even in her silences. As the line between rivalry, desire, and something far more complicated grows increasingly blurred, both women are forced to confront a truth neither of them is ready to admit.

The thought arrived uninvited and immediately irritated her.
Across the table, Andrea was studying the condensation running down the side of her water glass, apparently oblivious to the fact that she had just made the last two decades considerably more confusing. People did not usually remember promotions, or cities someone had lived in, or the exact order in which those things had happened. They certainly didn’t recall them casually over lunch nearly twenty years later. At least, not unless they had been paying attention. Not unless, at some point, they had actively wanted to know.
And if Andrea had been paying attention all this time, then Emily suddenly found herself confronted with a question she had never once considered asking.

If you had told Daphne Kluger a month ago that she’d be dating a woman for three months, she’d call you a liar. First of all, she could never date. Period. Dating meant peeling away the layers of pristine perfect persona she had carefully created over the years. And behind those layers, there laid ugliness. And Daphne didn’t do ugly, no, not even a little bit. Then there’s the “woman” part of the equation. She won’t even go there. Can’t think about it without her palms getting sweaty and her face flushing six shades brighter. And that is exactly why she tries not to think about them, about women. Granted, everything you run away from eventually comes back to you. So, the comment happened. And everything else that came with it.
