Leo sometimes causes problems for fun, and he likes to see what trouble he can get away with or get himself out of, and he is a downright menace to society when he’s bored—but he’s good. He’s sweet, and charming, and wants to help.
Leo wouldn’t have raised an issue with the other group of mutants, potentially cutting ties with useful allies, unless he had a decent reason to.

It was a statement that was clearly not meant to actually be directed at Donnie. It was not genuinely meant to elicit a response. And yet, words bubbled up in Donnie’s throat, and no matter how much he grit his teeth and clenched his jaw, he said them anyway. “I don’t like you,” he blurted out, digging his nails into the palm of his hand.

“You are so rude! I love it!” The old woman’s laughter died down as she placed her hands neatly on top of the table and leaned in with an excitable whisper. “Can you tell me their name?”
Miriam knew that this meant this was a weird, old-lady metaphorical lesson and not about flowers.
“No, I don’t know their name.” Miriam admitted as she pinched her eyebrows and sighed.
