Caitlyn had been backed into a corner. Now, she’s standing in a room with twenty-four other women and counting down the days until Jayce can regretfully tell her that she’ll be going home.
They’re still setting up the lights, so Caitlyn takes a moment to look around the room, examining the other girls. The crew certainly must have been aiming for variety, because each person is increasingly distinct from the one next to them. She’s standing in the back row of the lineup, for height reasons, and though she can’t get a good view at the faces right in front of her, she can make assumptions from the brief glances she had gotten earlier and the backs of their heads.
One woman stands out in particular—vivid pink hair with one side shaven. The woman is standing further to the left of the group, so Caitlyn’s able to lean forward just slightly and get a better view, only to realize with stunning clarity—

Summary

Yeah, it still hurts. Having Ned and MJ so close to him yet so far away. Seeing Happy every so often and never being able to say a word. The guilt of May’s death weighing on his shoulders.
But even though the pain never leaves, it’s usually tolerable.
He can let himself cry for a bit, then toughen up and go patrolling.And even if he lets the thugs take a few more hits at him than needed, or lets himself get in the way of a pocket knife, or takes a little too long to dodge a bullet, it’s okay.
Because at least he’s okay.Isn’t he?

She sets her file aside, then stands up from the couch and walks to the window, making a show of frowning at her partner and best friend. “Can’t you use the door like a normal person?” she asks with a fake sigh as she opens the window, and Vi frowns too.
“Why?” she retorts, like she’s really wondering, “I’d have to come down from the roof and then back up, that doesn’t make sense.”
