There was another flood of fear and anxiety like waves, wide eyes watched fearfully at the still raised arm, Stilinski tried to scoot farther away from the alpha teen. Did he think Derek was going to hit him?Derek almost phased tasting the flood of emotion saturating the air. The omega was hurt and the alpha wanted to protect, now that was damn confusing.
“Please don’t.” A hoarse plea, another whimper. “Just leave me alone.” Breathless now.
Derek felt his wolf whimper and snap as if gnawing at an invisible muzzle, his paws clawing to get out just below the surface. An eerie feeling of rejection pushed at Derek and both he and his wolf didn’t like it. The human part of Derek was surprised but the wolf was angry.

He thought about Stiles’ face that morning, deeply wounded even though he was trying so hard to not to show it. A hot spike of anger rose in his chest then, at Stiles for hiding his feelings, at himself for doing the same, at the stupid fucking universe for giving him the man he wanted to love forever when he was still in high school and for making that man his teacher.
He was still sitting there, drunk and anguished, when Stiles shuffled into the room, stopping when he saw Derek. His long, lean torso was still shining with water, towel low on his hips. He looked as wrecked as Derek felt, eyes tired and bleary, drunk.
He was beautiful, and Derek loved him.

Derek is in the next room over, listening to Cora cry about how life isn't fair whilst he is processing the appearance of his bond.
