Chandrilan society shouldn't be much more appealing to him than Mon and Perrin’s marriage is, he's seen both of them at their cruellest and coldest; but part of him’s still yearning. At least with Chandrila he has Mon to bring him into it and lift and support and shield him and make it something that feels worth belonging to. She’s always at her least scathing and critical of Chandrila’s traditions and customs when she’s explaining some part of them to Erskin, as if knowing how much Erskin longs for Chandrila despite all its flaws makes her view it more kindly herself.
There’s the grain of a thought there. Something to come back to, perhaps.
