Shadow is a lot of things: the Ultimate Lifeform, heir to the Black Arms, powerful beyond measure, fast beyond belief, brimming with Chaos energy.
He's also a hedgehog. He's Gerald's son and Maria's brother. He's Rouge and Omega's brother. He's Sonic's.. rival? Friend? Something.
He's a weapon, and he's a teenager. Deadly, precise and cold as often as he's tired, achey and temperamental.
One thing is for certain: Shadow is a living being and, like all living beings, he's full of contradictions.
Or: Shadow navigates his new life, having to learn and accept that he doesn't actually need a purpose to exist.
