    There's a kid roaming around Gotham who looks eerily similar to one of their own. He has his nose, his smile, and his annoying ability of acrobatically removing himself from awkward situations.

    So if the kid really is Dick's son, it only makes sense to bring him in, right? Peter's probably homeless, weirdly dusty, and yet strangely steadfast in his lie that his "guardian" is at home just asleep.

    "He's just super tired from the trip. Passed out as soon as we got here actually. But he's at home waiting for me."

    That has to be a lie. Right?

    The door opens. 

    Claire chokes. Ryland is standing there in blue PJ pants and an oversized PBS t-shirt. He's rubbing his eyes, which are missing his glasses, which makes it even more obvious how similar they look. When his hand falls away, Six watches him process what is standing at his door. His eyes go from Six, down to Claire, then back up to Six. 

    He laughs, high and stressed, then closes the door in their face.

    OR, Six needs help taking care of Claire after they break free from their respective jails. He decides that his younger brother Ryland Grace is the solution.

    “You’re alive,” Tommy breathes, repeating it twice.

    Each one hits like a blow.

    “She’s dead,” he counters, voice flat in counterpoint to the way it writhes in him like a snake, a painful, thrashing thing. It’s the first time he’s said it out loud.

    He can’t bear to repeat it.

    “No, no,” Tommy says in a rush, pulling back. “No, Joel. She’s here. She’s in Jackson.”

    Joel could almost laugh at the lie, well-intentioned but misplaced, which is his brother’s particular specialty. Tommy must have already read it on him, what Joel knows he’s going to do next. He’d sworn once to his brother that he would never do it again, never leave him behind.

    But a man can only break so much before he can’t withstand it anymore.

    (what if joel was just a few minutes too late to find ellie in silver lake?)

    “I’m not a toddler, dude, I can walk by myself,” The kid said.

    “I got my orders,” He ignored the eye roll the kid threw at him, “And quit calling me dude.”

    “Whatever you say,” She gave him a sly smile, “Bro.”

    (or joel just wants to do his job and go home smelling like a campfire, it'd be great if the raccoon child from the alley would let him do that in peace)

    Twenty-six years later, Darcy has a trust fund, a surname that isn’t his, and absolutely no interest in unpacking any of that.

    After New Mexico, Norway, London, gods, elves, and Jane Foster’s general inability to stay away from cosmic bullshit, Darcy has decided that living in Stark Tower is honestly not that weird.

    Neither is bringing Tony Stark coffee in a mug that says Capitalist Sr.

    That’s just funny.

    At least until Thor starts asking questions.

    And apparently she can add another fact to the list: Darcy has been living in her father’s tower for weeks.

    And nobody thought to tell either of them.
