Jay decides to retread his old film school memories and Tim bothers Jay into letting him join in.

"I think it might upset you." Jay pushed back again. His grip on the remote was knuckle white.
"It's a silent film, how bad can it be?" Tim picked up the remote and flopped against Jay's shoulder. Some stupid movie wasn't going to break him.
Jay sighed, relented. “Are you sure Brian never showed you this?” Jay asked softly. Tim glanced at him. Jay ran a hand through his hair and shrugged. “He took lighting class too and I know Prof. Minesinger really liked showing this. That's how I first learned about it. And…” Jay bit his lip, pressed rewind on the remote.
The TV stuttered, showed a man standing over a woman laying in bed, then a close-up on his face. He was holding a knife, a hungry, wild expression –
The man's face. That thing’s mask stared back at him. The makeup on the other man: pale white skin, the diamonds around the eyes, the lipstick, the exaggerated eyebrows.
The same mask he'd thrown in the dumpster.
“Cesare.” Tim felt something shift in his mind as he spoke the name. Something hidden in the attic, creaking down a ladder.

jay knows she’s lightheartedly joking to ease the painfully obvious pity she’s showing as she watches him shakily stand up, joints popping loudly. he does his best to not hiss at the pain in his knees since she already knows there’s something wrong with him, and he doesn’t want to give her any more reasons to look at him like he’s an injured bird she needs to nurse back to health.

Gotham was built on a cave system. Batman has referenced a Bat Cave before. Tim is currently in the cave system. He is in the cave system that he entered from Drake Manor. Drake Manor is right next door to where Batman- The Bruce Wayne- lives. Holy Cavern, Batman! Tim had just accidentally wandered into the Bat Cave’s cave system.
OR
Tim, having found a weird hole after a storm, decides to go exploring ignoring the fact that This Is Gotham and They Probably Have Cursed Stuff Down There.
Luckily, it was just a cave system that spans the entire Gotham underground. Unluckily, Tim is a very curious child.

Tim has always known how to be quiet. Ever since he was young he's known how to evade creaky floorboards and squeaky door hinges. He uses these skills to follow Batman and Robin as they fly all over Gotham.
Tim knows how to be quiet, but he hates silence. He's always hated the suffocating silence of his house and the mocking looks that the empty walls give him. Walls that would otherwise have family photos if his parents were ever around so they could be a family.

“Oh, I classically conditioned myself over winter break when I was eleven. All I have to do to tear up is pinch a certain point on my arm. See?” Tim viciously pinches a spot on his inner forearm. Immediately tears start to well in his eyes.
