“I’ve told you,” Louis says, tossing the bag of cancer-laden chemical corn puffs into the garbage after plucking them from Claudia’s lunch bag that he’s packing for the day, “I don’t want her eating this shit.”
Defiantly, Lestat pops open a bag himself and tosses a handful into his mouth.
Louis glares while Lestat serenely chews and swallows.
“She likes them, cheri,” and the pet name is nothing but further fuel to the flame right now, “and your government has approved them for consumption. Where’s the harm?”
“Read that ingredient list and answer your own question,” Louis shoots back, reaching for the cupboard that holds the sides for Claudia’s lunches and grabbing a container to put some Mary’s Crackers into. Lestat watches him, nonplussed, as he chews another mouthful of artificially dyed nonsense.
(louis is beyond thrilled to be a father) (now if he could just get lestat on board with his non-gmo, free range, dye-free, organic food choices for their child)

Lestat began to follow again, a recognition of old worship washing over him. “You’re important to me.” He said, facing forward. Onward. “Claudia is gone.” Her name felt like spikes in Lestat’s ears. “My only fledgling is gone. The man I was with for 77 years directed their deaths, and then turned the one fucking guy I liked to talk to into a harbinger of death and tried to force him into my care. I’m pissed at him. Pissed is the understatement of the millenia, even.” Lestat tried to speak, tried to seize this opportunity to remind Louis of the beauty of their reconciliation, but: “I’m pissed at you! You won’t stop slandering me in public, won’t stop writing songs about how much you want to fuck me at the same time. You make me so angry, and I still–” Lestat almost thought he’d say it.
He didn’t.
OR
Lestat and Louis, while trying to retrieve Nicolas' music box from the Talamasca, have a lot to work through.

There’s a panic within him that Lestat hasn’t felt for years when the sunlight streams in a perfect circle containing Claudia and Louis’s fledgling, a panic he hasn’t felt since the night he felt tainted blood rise to his throat and the love of his life drag a knife across it. It’s the panic of an ending unexpected, of a rug yanked from beneath him. He made his choice. He chose Louis. He knew if it came down to using his abilities to sway the audience, he only had the power for one. It wasn’t even something he had to think about. It was Louis. It was always going to be Louis.
But it’s Claudia before him now, looking back at him with a daughter’s eyes even as her face begins to crumble into ash.

Erin groped for the lonely lacrima on the bedside table; his fingertips found cool, finely engraved stone, and he tapped it. A pale light suffused his room. Shadows lurked in the corners, but his simple cot and the writing desk across from it were thrown into sharp relief. Erin considered his journal, awaiting him patiently on the desk, but a pang of pain lanced through his temples, and he balked at the prospect of trying to focus on writing. No, tonight was not a journaling night.Or: it's insomnia o'clock, and Erin can't sleep for the life of him. For better or for worse, he discovers that he's not the only one awake.

He manages several properties in the red light district. He is twenty-nine years old. He attends the Opera alone and in the fourth tier, and the Opera is the one place he has learned to feel things without managing them first.
Lestat de Lioncourt has been in New Orleans longer than anyone currently alive can remember. He has been present at the French Opera House in various unofficial capacities since its opening in 1859. He does not have a formal arrangement with management. He doesn't need one.

“Lestat? Are you all right, buddy? Can you hear me?”
Lestat does not respond, does not move, does not breathe. The echo of his heart, though present, seems more distant than it has ever been.
It is terrifying, deplorable, sickening in a way that brings blood and bile to Louis's mouth. Lestat sits motionless in that armchair, his hands clenched on the armrests. His lips are wide open, glistening with saliva that he makes no effort to swallow. His eyes are open.
That's the worst part. He wants to turn away, he wants not to look at them, he wants to avoid seeing them altogether, yet he forces himself to take a step forward.
“Les, baby?” he whispers uncertainly, as the sour taste he holds under his tongue plagues his every thought.
That look is so different from what he knows, from what he loves, from what he remembers. It is dark, dark as if the pupil had enlarged to eat away everything. It is distant, absent, motionless.OR
Lestat falls into a deep dissociative state as he tells Daniel about his making. Louis doesn't know how to bring him back.

Deafening, the sound of her.
A pounding at his ear drums, an aching ream of resonance singing round and round the shell of his ears. Whipping winds howling at his eyes until he can barely see, bloodied tears pooling at his lids, catching in his lashes, courting dust, dirt, debris, the smell of the Mississippi hauled outta her riverbed and up in the air, drowning him as he tries to steady his feet. He can’t vamp. Not with his hand still holding fast to the knot of Lestat’s robe, not when the hurricane would force him, them, any direction it wanted, toss them around like a cat with a muddy-shelled roach, and vaguely he realizes that he has no idea where he’s going.

Louis and Lestat leave the shack the night of the hurricane, seek refuge in a store, navigate too many memories, argue, ache, and maybe figure out the start of a way forward.
