What if the fish didn't attack the SM-13 or SM-14 at the very end of the movie? maybe this.
Ignore things being out of order, I've seen the movie twice and still can't remember the order of things. :')

Simon let go of the blackbox and raised his arm towards the side of her face. When he missed, he started to panic, thinking that his hand went through her. He started to think that she wasn't real and that everything was just a hallucination but then, something warm grabbed ahold of his shaking hand and guided it towards her cheek.
"...Real?"
The hand squeezed his, letting him press harder onto the soft skin. "Yes, Simon. This is real. Now, do me a favor and keep your eyes open."

Simon dies in the Blood Ocean, only to find out he's not actually dead and has somehow, someway (usually a wormhole) managed to wind up on either the Hail Mary, or Erid.
Well, that's not this story. In THIS story, Simon wakes up on Stratt's Vat; heavily wounded, irradiated, and mutated. One thing he knows for sure is that he should *not* be alive. Maybe that's why Ryland Grace is so interested in him. For the mystery of it.

Inspired by ctrl-shift-alt-9's posts on Tumblr: What if Simon was told more about the mission and actually given a chance to succeed, leading to his freedom. Especially since (even with the circumstances) he did a pretty good job piloting and navigating the SM-13. Understandably so, the post actually gives Simon a regular courier job, but sorry Simon, here you're going back in the Lung, full time.

Consistently, every good that he experienced was found to be temporary, eventually ripped harshly from his grasp the second he began to believe that the happiness would have no end. It became a part of who he is, and although he would never admit this out loud, he found its presence comforting.
The one thing Peter still genuinely found joy in was Spider-Man, it was the only time where his carefully curated persona felt less... well fake. So, swinging through New York, listening a playlist filled with his aunt and uncles favourite songs, on his earpiece that he made a few months, was probably one of the best parts of his day."
