Will can’t allow himself the luxury of a wet dream tonight, so he wills for Mike to stop moving.
Mike does not stop moving.
Will frowns, mustering up more focus, sharpening his control.
Mike still doesn’t stop, but he lets out an annoyed whine. “What’s fucking tugging at me right now?”
What.
“I’m—trying to stop you. Stop.” Will’s voice comes out warped and distant, unused to being spoken out loud in the dreamscape.
Mike stops moving, as instructed, breathing heavily against Will’s open mouth. “Why? Isn’t this—isn’t this just a dream? Come on.”
Huh?!
What is Will’s subconscious trying to achieve right now?—or—
Will's powers have been acting up lately, thanks to the stress of college and a part time job.
He finds solace in his usual lucid dreams. Except, suddenly — they get clearer. More vivid. More out of control.
Will assumes it’s just his subconscious working through some very obvious problems.
Mike assumes he’s just having weird sex dreams about his best friend because he’s stressed and pent-up.Neither of them realizes they’re sharing them.

"Mike," Will says lowly. "You’re— You’re so close."
Too close, his brain supplies, a little hysterical. Too much.
Mike doesn’t pull away. "I know."
"Why?"
"Keeping up…" Mike exhales a short laugh that Will feels on his neck, "appearances."

A guy hits on Will at a party, Mike leaves with a hickey, and by morning everybody thinks they're dating.
Will knows it’s supposed to be pretend. He just doesn’t know how to act like he hasn’t wanted this for as long as he can remember.

“Will, this is huge! I told you, you’re a sorcerer!” Mike smiled, scooting closer to Will. He tried to keep his face as normal as possible, but Mike's insistence on being clingy in this moment was definitely starting to show in his expression.
“Yeah, I can’t believe it, but I kinda am,” Will laughed nervously, twirling his thumbs. The two stayed silent for a moment before Mike cleared his throat.
“So, how did you, you know, do it?” Mike asked, clearly not sure if he could ask this question.
“Um, I’m not really sure, I just saw it attacking you, and I guess I just knew I needed to do something,” Will said, trying to gather his thoughts. How could he tell this story without revealing too much?

After Will saved his life from the Demogorgon, Mike began to question how he really viewed his best friend. And that night, a breath of fresh air helped him answer any questions he may have had.

Summary
“So… you moved on?” Mike asks eventually, still not satisfied with his knowledge.
Will thinks about it for a while.
“No… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully let you go.”
Mike sighs in relief for reasons he didn’t come to terms with yet.
“I mean, I’ve liked you since we were what? Twelve?” Will continues, seeming to have built up the courage to talk about this. Mike nods, understanding.
“Will, actually, I also have something to say.”
“Well, what is it?”
Mike’s sure both of them are equally nervous by now. He takes a deep breath, trying his best to form his words properly.In other words, a post s5 vol3 oneshot, to show the Duffers how awfully easy it was to give Will his free route to the deserved ending, in which Mike and Will finally have a few minutes alone, and Mike decides to adress the elephant in the room.

Will’s reddened eyes narrow, bewildered. “Mathematically?”
“If there’s two hits left, we’d each only get one,” Mike explains. “But if we shotgunned, we’d both get two.” God, this is the best idea he’s had in ages. He should’ve stolen Will’s weed, like, months ago. “That’s like, bang for your buck. This is simple math, Will Byers. Keep up.”
In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.

Michael stepped closer to Will, until he was nearly pressed against his side. He looked at him, head tilted down to meet his gaze. His boots made him taller, making the height difference he and Mike shared even more pronounced. Will shivered when he felt a hand press against his lower back.
“My choices are yours, my prince. If you would like me to distance myself, I will do so without hesitation. Would you like that?”
Will stared, mouth agape. Michael’s eyes were boring into his soul. Mike had never looked at him like that, and it was doing things to him. Slowly, he shook his head.
Michael smirked, looking pleased.
“Hey,” Mike snapped. “I said back off, okay?”When an alternate version of Mike, a strong, confident knight, appears in Hawkins, the Party attempts to help him get home, and Will attempts to survive his flirting.

Paladin Mike’s jaw tightened. “I do not own him,” he said immediately. “He is—” He stopped, swallowing. His eyes went back to Will softening, and that softness made Mike hate him even more. He could recognize the look, and saw it mirrored in his own eyes countless times.

“He is the Light. By your oath, I am bound to him. My liege.” He bowed his head slightly toward Will, his mouth wrapped around the word like it was a prayer. “My cleric.” He said after, softer.
“Oh my god.” Will flushed, impossibly. “That is crazy. He is actually crazy."
Max, who had been standing with her arms crossed behind them, muttered, “Jesus Christ,” under her breath.
Mike Wheeler is going to explode, because there is an alternate, armoured version of him, following Will Byers around like he belonged to him.
