At some point, Kaito shows Maki blueprints for the aircraft he’s to go in, and she nods along to his detailed descriptions of the shuttle. For a brief moment, Kaito turns and sees Maki’s eyes glaze over during his speech.
It’s not her fault, he knows. But he keeps working, and finding people he just clicks with, and eventually stops chatting with Maki every single day, giving her apologies of time-zone differences and late night learning.
