Summary
“You’ve never touched yourself?” Merlin asks, astonished, his curiosity unashamed.
“Merlin!”
He laughs at Arthur over the rim of his wine, the effects of the liquid pouring over him, loosening his manners. “I’m sorry, it’s not my place.” Then, “but–like, why?”
Arthur groans, slumping down into his chair, legs spread far apart. With how they are both sat facing the fire, the change in Arthur’s position makes their knees knock together. Neither of them move.
“I don’t know,” Arthur finally answers, accepting the defeat to his extinguished dignity. “A few reasons, I guess,” he mumbles, taking a sip of his lessening wine.
(Or, Arthur reveals he's never touched himself, creating a shocked Merlin and leading to a night of firsts.)

Summary
“I told you to go,” he says, voice rough but quiet. If Merlin were to guess, he’d assume that Arthur has been crying. But that can’t be. Arthur never cries.
He sets the food down on the table. “Would you rather me leave you to starve?” Merlin attempts at a joke. Surely Arthur will laugh, or get so annoyed that he lifts his head from his knees and proves that he’s indeed scowling, not pouting.
“Yes,” he replies with a devastating sniff. “Now go away.”
After a harsh scolding from Uther, Merlin notices that Arthur is acting a little… strangely. Younger, even. At first, he suspects that Arthur has been cursed— but maybe that isn’t the case.
