“Ilya Rozanov,” Shane blurts out before he can stop himself. Shane's shocked to see him now, a ghost plucked right out of his teenage years, his pre-MHL hockey days. He's even more shocked to see the modesty collar on Rozanov.
“Petrov,” the woman introducing them finishes weakly. “His husband, Ilya Petrov.”

Or: When Ilya is outed as an Omega, he's forcibly married off before he has the chance to break free and become an international hockey star. Years after the single game they played against one another, Shane and Ilya encounter each once again, and Shane helps Ilya escape the cage of his marriage.

“Would he?” Shane asks.
“Grigori is dangerous because he is persistent,” Svetlana says. “He wears people down. He makes them small. This is what he did to Ilya’s mama, and he now he does this to Ilya. Ilya can survive it because he is a world away. He will not survive it if Grigori is the only voice in his head all the time.”

When Ilya answers, he’s greeted with a whimpered moan that goes straight to his head, leaving him reeling like he’s just thrown back another shot. His mouth drops open, the cigarette dangling stupidly from his lower lip for a second until he plucks it free with his other hand.
Holy fuck. He must be dreaming. But the rough breaths filtering into his ear are too real, tethering him tightly to the moment.
“Jane,” he murmurs, gleeful and shocked. “This is not like you.”

Or: after Shane confesses that he can struggle to get off if he's too stressed, Ilya suggests he should just call him next time. He doesn't think Shane would ever be desperate enough to go through with it.

Ilya Rozanov misses his mother.
This was an inherent fact to him, as inherent as I am Russian, or I am a professional hockey player, or I love Shane Hollander. I miss my mother was something that had been true since the moment he found her lifeless body in her bed when he was twelve years old, and it was something that would always be true until Ilya Rozanov himself ceased to exist. Even then, it would probably persist somewhere in the ether. Ilya is unlucky like that.
