Summary
Not for the first time, Illuga thinks there must be something wrong with him. Maybe he’s been possessed by the Wild Hunt. Maybe the kuuvahki is finally getting to him; one too many mandragoras, or something like that.
Either way, there has to be a reason. Why else would Illuga keep letting Lohen into his bed? Why else would Illuga allow Lohen to use his body again and again, leaving Illuga with bruised skin, aching bones, and a weary heart?
‘Friends with benefits’ is a phrase he’s heard before, and it makes sense. The life of a Lightkeeper can be cold and lonely, so it’s only natural to seek warmth and comfort from another. But Illuga never expected to find himself in such an arrangement, if what they have can even be called that. Lohen’s rough treatment offers no benefits, and they certainly aren’t friends. Illuga doesn’t even like him.
This can’t possibly be what Flins had in mind when he suggested that Illuga take up a new hobby.

Alhaitham is perfectly aware that he’s on borrowed time. He’s also aware that while Kaveh is brilliant, he will never be truly happy or appreciated in the current Sumeru.
So when Grand Sage Azar drops a hint into a project about Divine Knowledge just as Alhaitham’s time is running out, he decides to dedicate the rest of his very short life into investigating whether or not that could be the downfall for the leaders of the current Sumeru.
And well, if something goes wrong and he mysteriously disappears, so be it. At least Kaveh won’t be able to somehow blame himself for Alhaitham’s death.

"Wow, Grandmaster," Lohen gives a slow applause, his face no longer holding the gaze of a predator, but now pure indifference, "nicely done, getting out of that hole."
"Yep," Varka rolls his shoulder, "there's never something I can't handle, you know." When he gets the ache out of his shoulder, he glances at Lohen from the corner of his eyes. "Especially not another Alpha."
Lohen blinks, once, twice, three times, before breaking out into a grin.
There's always been a sort of... tension between Varka and Lohen, given they were both alphas. Lohen was all bark WITH a lot of bite, and Varka entertained every whim. But when things go a step too far, Varka's forced to re-evaluate what should be happening between of them, and it doesn't help that Lohen's starting to act off, either.

Otherwise, what other incentive would he really have to keep returning to the craftshop? He’s gotten what he initially came for, and the rest will not have to do with them. If anything, in the broader scale of things, it will be best to keep them out of his business. Yesterday’s comrades may well come to be tomorrow’s enemies, and so on and so forth.
But little Aino looks at him expectantly upon each of his arrival. He pulls out the container—“La Lettre a Focalors, from Fontaine,”—and watches as her wide gray eyes sparkle with an unassuming vividness to it, snatching the container from his hands in an instant. “Ineffa, it’s chocolate cake from Fontaine!” She yells, and jumps to give the Wanderer a quick head pat, before dragging him with her to the house.
The whole thing is ridiculous, really.
An uncanny partnership, born of desserts and machines.

“Do you think… we can become anything beyond what we’re made of?”
… is the first question posed to the Wanderer, upon reuniting with his new “friend”—the little kid born out of that fictional storybook containing one too many magical energy to be lying around in a random corner of the Akademiya.
The Wanderer laughs. Perhaps such philosophies simply come as a byproduct of creation as opposed to the natural cycle of birth and death—that, for some higher-order reason, they should find themselves being brought to existence, left to grow into the “flesh” that has been given to them without clear instruction as to how. Durin stares at him much like a lost child, like a duck imprinting upon the hen—like his word will come to define his world.
“You were made of ink—printed words, painted shapes,” is all he said, before turning around, sleeves and ribbons swaying gracefully under the benediction of the wind.
Inhuman humans, each somewhere along their journeys for the meaning of existence.

The most violent, eardrum-destroying-induced explosion was suddenly activated just near him, his instincts suddenly pushing him away from the site before anything else could occur. As he did, water splattered at him, as well as–
"What the fuck!" He screamed, his head ducked in between his arms, seeing fish landing from where he was keeled over, seemingly dying.
Lohen had the nerve to guffaw at his sight, grabbing his stomach until his knees went weak, and then kneeling at the shore they were at, desperately chasing his breath.
"Archons!" Lohen's still laughing, that fucker, "That was so perfect! We got him, Klee!"
Illuga is very much endeared by this chaotic duo, who hold both his hands while they whisk him away to yet another scheme of theirs. Illuga finds that he doesn't mind, just like all things when it comes to Lohen.
