The arrival of the Affini is stripping away her identity piece by piece, so who gets left behind? No one, not in the Compact. Gaillardia has loved and lost many florets, and each holds a dear place in her core. The most recent parting was especially bittersweet, and she's a little apprehensive to accept another. Set in GlitchyRobo's Human Domestication Guide setting.
Humanity has been invaded by a precursor race of hypercompetent plant dommes called the Affini, and forcibly given paradise in a post-scarcity culture that heavily prioritizes the care for its protectorates, to the point of drugging and mind-controlling them into a blissful reverie if necessary. For almost everyone this is a vast improvement. All that's required is to give up any silly notions that anyone except for the Affini know what's best for everyone; in many cases the poor things clearly don't.
Indi has a fun day in the place with the big people.
No formatting tricks or anything this time. This story takes place on the Trillium, but does not require any part of The Place Where We Can Stop Running to understand.
