    “That husband of yours, Ilya.” She begins, and Shane tenses out of habit. “He is Russian, correct?” Shane nods, eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the non sequitur. Marie just looks at him for a moment more, staring into his eyes. He flinches, glancing away from her heavy stare. She must find what she’s looking for, because she nods once to herself. She thrusts the book into Shane’s arms forcefully enough he stumbles back a step. “Keep it.”

    “Wha?” Shane gapes at her for a moment in absolute shock before his brain comes back online. “But this is your favorite book?”

    “Consider it a late wedding present.” She shrugs, before a little smirk crosses her face. “Besides, I have all my favorite recipes memorized anyway.” She winks at him, and he smiles, feeling like he's thirteen years old again and they’re sneaking extra dessert before bed.

    Shane's childhood babysitters are moving away. It's only polite that he and Yuna go say goodbye. While at their house, Shane finds an old cookbook. The unremarkable leather bound book ends up being a link between Ilya and Shane that neither man expected.

    "Look at that," Ilya rumbled, nodding at the two boys. "Your kid likes my kid. He’s got good taste. Maybe they’ll get married one day, eh? They be endgame. Imagine the dynasty. Hockey and royalty. We would be unstoppable."

    Henry visualized, with crystal clarity, scooping Archie up, marching him back to the motorcade, and locking him in the highest tower of Windsor Castle until he was at least forty-five.

    "My Archie is three," Henry said, feeling the same irritation he felt in the tunnel years ago. "And he is not marrying anyone. Least of all a chaotic, hockey-playing ruffian who steals equipment."

    Ilya threw his head back and laughed, a booming sound that made a passing Mountie flinch. "You sound just like Shane's dad. 'Oh no, the big bad Russian is coming for my baby.'" He winked at Henry. "Spoiler alert, Wales: the Russian always wins."
